What Is a DGFT Digital Signature Certificate?
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) regulates India's import and export activity under the Ministry of Commerce. Every transaction on its online portal — from registering an Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) to applying for a duty exemption license — must be digitally signed using a licensed Class 3 Digital Signature Certificate.
Signing-only vs Combo: A Signing-only Class 3 DSC is sufficient for IEC registration and most DGFT applications. If your business also files on the ICEGate customs portal or bids on NSDL-based eTendering platforms, you'll need the Combo (Sign + Encrypt) version instead.
